I’m passionate about clean and clear communication, innovating creative solutions to get the technology out of the way so people can understand your message.
My Story
If my Sunday School teacher hadn’t let me twiddle the bass, treble, and volume knobs, the immediate understanding of what they did might not have been seeded so soon.
I’ve worked with techy things since I learned buttons could be pressed. I claim 30 years of audio experience, which puts my start date at the ripe old age of 6. I guess one could describe me as a digital native.
All things audio became a hobby and then a career, through school, church, and college. I chose a degree in Communication Theory, balancing the human element with my inclination towards technology
I was heavily involved in music as a percussionist throughout my time at Northwestern College. Coursework was good, but being employed on-campus as an audio tech for over 300 weddings and other events gave opportunity for practical application of my favorite subject.
Time and experience, skill and passion were finally in equilibrium, I was no longer just a tech pushing buttons, but an active participant in making music.
I remember one particular event, working with a vocalist for the first time. She had a soft sweet voice and I set my sound board, mic, and outboard gear up to work with that (analog yo!). It wasn’t until the second or third song that she belted out this HUGE chorus, crushed my signal chain, and brought goosebumps to the whole room. I could see the impact immediately in the audience. Tears came to my eyes as I quickly made adjustments to re-balance the band around her. There was little in the way of thought about the tools I was using, rather the mix I needed came together instinctively, focusing on the moment and the music.
Moments like that are few and far between but have life-propelling impact. I do what I do today because I believe in the positive difference it can make in the world.
Media System design & engineering is now my career of 10 years. I also previously worked 2 years in sales, 2 years in radio, and 3 years in computer repair & support.
As often happens when one works a day job closely related to their passion, not every event or design brings an opportunity to make an impact.
I’m building out my freelance work (hence, you are here!) to hopefully lend a little right-brain art to a left-brain dominated field.
What lights me up and brings me joy is to be involved in projects that have a real human impact: Using my head to engineer so my heart can create.
I’d like to bring that joy and spark into your next event.
… the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
